Creating animations, videos, and compression methods

With pCon.planner it is possible to create an animation. Here you will find the manual on how you can make one.

After creating an animation, this animation can be converted to a video. When you save the animation as a video (* .avi file), you can select a compression method to limit the file size of the video.

However, these compression methods are not included in pCon.planner itself. The application only has access to the video codecs already installed on your operating system. A video codec can be found under the following link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/x264vfw/ (x264vfw - H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC-codec)

If you want to use compression methods that are not yet available on your system, you must make sure that the codec to be installed has been developed for Video for Windows (vfw). Only then it can be accessed by pCon.planner.

How to use the codec:

  • Go via the Presentation tab to Video to calculate the animation.
  • Click on the Play button and when the video is ready, you can save it as a .avi file.
  • A window will open where you can select the compression.
  • Choose x264vfw - H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC codec from the list (This codec can be downloaded from the link above).
  • Click on OK and the animation video is saved.

Below you will find an example of a video compression setting.

  • No Compression: 171 MB
  • Intel IYUY-codec 85,5 MB
  • Microsoft Video 1 1,17 MB
  • x264vfw - H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC-codec 223 KB
